Proud to be able to have an International Runway showcase each year, Telstra Perth Fashion Festival implored Singapore designer Daniel Ngoo to debut his SS17 collection from his label Whole 9 Yards. Uncommon within the sphere of Perth’s fashion scene, the unveiling of an unseen collection mesmerised the flock and revitalised the senses much to the desire of wanting to have one of each designer piece from the collection. The pieces proved to be somewhat refreshing as the audience awed at the signature use of lace, structured silhouettes, feminine tailoring and embroidery.
As the doors opened to a runway dotted with small knolls of moss and foil, fashion-goers eagerly searched for their seats and absorbed the energy of the feminine cool vibes bouncing through the venue. The catwalk centrepieces echoed cool elements and a soft emphasis on femininity and structure. The charismatic persona of the label was expressed beautifully in companionship with the models who wore the designs. Quality materials with signature detailing including floral motifs, re-cut organza, silk and tulle maintain the feminine beauty encapsulated in this collection for SS17.
Textures infused in the designs produce effortless styling and easy layering of thick cut lace over chiffon veils. My eyes drew close to the delicate soft pinks and structured outerwear that made me yearn for the girly things owning the runway. To better understand Ngoo’s work, word out, is that he grew up on a flower farm. It is no wonder this reflects in his designs in a mantra of fantastic feminine touches and explains his fascination with florals and petal like segments.
To say Whole 9 Yards has captivated my heart is miserly, I want to dress in their signature lace and organza bomber jackets, delicate embroidery pieces and tulle skirts forever and a day.
