The long-anticipating wait for the launch of Rihanna’s new cosmetics line Fenty Beauty has shaken the norms in the beauty industry. It’s all about celebrating diversity and it’s even greater when you see a hijabista in the video campaign! Just introduced on the 1st of September, this campaign has proven to be more than another advertisement for a beauty line – it’s a celebration of all Women of Colour! Onya girl, Riri we love you!

Among the beautiful models featured in the campaign, hijabi supermodel Halima Aden wrote on Instagram, “I want to thankQueen herself @badgalriri […] for the opportunity of a lifetime! #historyinthemaking”

At just 19, this fierce Somali-American is gaining worldwide attention after becoming the first hijab wearing Miss USA contestant to make it to the biggest runways in the industry. Halima was born in a refugee camp in Kenya and moved to the US when she was 7 years old. She has been taking the world by storm making international headlines and since then, she has become the first hijabi model to sign with international modeling agency IMG Models, home to Gigi and Bella Hadid and Miranda Kerr.

She walked the New York Fashion Week runway earlier this year showcasing Kanye West’s Yeezy collection.
It’s no secret that the beauty industry has often been criticised for being painfully white in representation. Products are often restricted to a narrow spectrum of clients and Rihanna is clearly making a point about inclusivity and diversity in this industry. Her brand will cater to women of all skin tones, especially those with dark skin. Riri is definitely changing up the make up game.

Fenty Beauty hails itself as “The New Generation Of Beauty,” will hit the shelves globally at Sephora and Harvey Nichols from the 8th of September. Get yours!
