Throughout the months leading up to the rebranding and relaunch of my blog, I came across an online magazine that was very in line with my blog. With their mission, “Bringing Modest Fashion into the Digital Age,” it drew me in and quickly I whipped up an email expressing my interest in becoming a contributor to their magazine. I wasn’t sure how my email would be perceived, though I was hopeful and patiently awaited their reply. To my surprise, I was emailed by the Editor of the magazine, a personal email that to this day I will remember. The genuinity made me feel so humbled to be part of the team, to contribute and create content, to be included in something I was passionate about. I was given the opportunity to submit articles and contribute to a magazine very in line with my blog.
Gaya is the Malay word for “style” and the magazine is written by women for women.
Another reason why this magazine was a strong representation of what I stood for; women empowerment. This opportunity was to be part of the team of writers for Gaya Magazine, an online magazine bringing “modest fashion right at your fingertips.” My first submission was one I did not expect to gain much out of. I was actually doubting myself and thought about whether it would appeal to anyone, but the response from Gaya’s Editor, Juliana Iskandar, made me excited. She reassured me that the content of my article was great and not to worry much about it as many could relate to my article as she did.
On the 1st of February, in line with World Hijab Day celebrating “Better Awareness. Greater Understanding. Peaceful World.,” the monthly issue was released to all. I was so very excited to read my first article published in an issue of Gaya magazine, only to find that I was not only published but also Cover Girl! SAY WHAT?!!! COVER GIRL! This is insane! My first submission gets published and then I am Cover Girl?!! I could not be any more thrilled and completely humbled to be on the front cover of such an amazing online magazine!

It has opened up many doors to other opportunities that I have been given, ones I am truly grateful for. I will be working on a few things in the next upcoming months as they flow through, so do keep your eyes peeled.
But wait! There’s more…
I want to share some more exciting news with you guys too. Recently I have just been given the opportunity to become ‘County Editor – Perth, Australia’ for Gaya magazine rather than just a Contributing Writer!! Yes you heard that right! I am now, officially the first Country Editor and the first Editor in Australia for Gaya. =)
Thank you Gaya Team, especially Juliana for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to progress as part of Gaya. I absolutely cannot wait to see where this journey takes me, but for now, do keep reading Gaya and be prepared to see more of my write ups in there. 😉
Thanks for reading!
