As all of Perth’s attendees flocked to Event Cinemas Innaloo to premiere Disney‘s “Alice Through The Looking Glass” last night, the magic filled the air. I was lucky enough to be amongst the first in Perth to witness Disney’s newest creation, packed with gorgeous imagery, the follow-up to Tim Burton’s 2010 movie, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ shows off work from VFX vendors Double Negative and Sony Pictures Imageworks.
As my plus one, I brought Girlfriend along though didn’t tell her anything about what we were doing or where we were going until we got into the car. She was overly excited to learn we were going to watch a movie premiere. We arrived in time to get our popcorn and drink and walked straight through to meet Angela from Diary Of Ange. We were greeted by a beautiful ‘Secret Garden’ flowerwall created by Wedstyle that became the backdrop to the photo station, plus a spread of goodies on an “Eat Me” table – maracons, lollies and icecream. As expected, recording devices such as mobile phones were all cloaked for the viewing. We grabbed our seats, learned quickly there was a door prize and swiftly looked beneath our seats to find nothing under mine but an envelope stating, “You Are The Door Prize Winner” underneath Missy A’s seat!!! Lucky girl!
The cinema became dark and then the movie ads ran. “Alice Through The Looking Glass” comprises of an all new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories. Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Mia Wasikowska stars in the movie along with returning cast members Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Alan Rickman’s voice as Absolem. Sacha Baron Cohen joins as Time, my ultimate favourite character in this movie as he is thoroughly enjoyable to watch and is full of hilarity, alongside Rhys Ifans as the Mad Hatter’s father. To say this film was spectacularly magical would be an understatement, in 3D it is even more engaging making you feel part of the mystical world of Underland. I highly recommend viewing it in 3D as the graphics and effects are dramatic and striking. Missy A excitedly whispered, “it’s like I’m swimming in the ocean Mummy!”
The movie is dedicated to Alan Rickman who passed earlier this year on the 14th January 2016, his voice will always be part of Alice’s world through Absolem. Dedication runs just before the credits as this famous actor will remain in our memories and in hearts of many films forever.
Thank you Tash and Disney for inviting us to premiere such a fantastical film. The set up, coordination and little touches made this event an experience to remember!
“Alice Through The Looking Glass” arrives in cinemas on the 26th May, 2016.
